Adam Kielty – Another Innocent Child dies of sepsis.

Rory Staunton Foundation, Sepsis Education, Awareness and Prevention

Adam Kielty (11) arrives home to Ireland today, another victim of sepsis. His family had moved to Australia 18 months ago. Adam came home from school in Brisbane with a sore leg in early February and was sent to hospital. Adam was seriously ill, he had sepsis. The doctors believed that he might pull through because he was such a healthy young man. However on February 22 Adam died, his mom and dad, his brothers and his granddad by his side.

Another family are now facing the same nightmare that we faced as Rory’s parents. The staff in the hospital in Brisbane believed initially that he might lose his toe, just as they believed that Rory might lose his, sadly once again despite Adam’s desperate battle for life and his healthy body this brave little boy died; he lost his battle to sepsis.

Adam arrives in Dublin today and will be buried on Wednesday. The journey home is something that is impossible to describe, it is just barely doable for a grieving family.

Adam’s family are determined to raise awareness of sepsis. His aunt Susan Kielty, a runner, is a member of Cilles AC in Meath, and  she is running a race on Sunday, dedicating it  to Adam and his parents Dermot and Antoinette. She is launching a fundraising appeal to help with the repatriation costs of Adam’s remains.

Our love and thoughts are with this family during these unfair and heartbreaking times.
